It can be hard to keep up to date with all the latest goings on in the world today. I try to keep up on the latest internet trends and memes. But it just impossible to stay aware of everything that is going down. Even some obvious things that have been around for a while can take a while for me to get to. One example is C[Skype]], this is a great tool that I’ve known about for years. I just haven’t had the occasion to actually try it out.
This is a great application, easy to use and fun. They’ve really built well on people’s understanding of chat tools. That’s really what it is, videochat. But it works quite well. This last weekend I talked for an hour with my uncle in Costa Rica. It was great to see him and hear how he was doing. The really fun part was that he hasn’t seen our house yet, so I walked around the house with my laptop and gave him a tour via the built in webcam. That’s pretty novel.
As the technology moves forward, some things that aren’t really huge leaps can make it all worth while. I can now easily chat for free over the web with my aunt in Boston, my uncle in Costa Rica, and my parents just a few hours away. It’s actually quite ironic that it was my aunt and uncle that got me to use Skype. Will wonders never cease?
